🥔 Instructions for Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets

All of the ingredients for gluten free chicken nuggets sitting on a white counter

Step 1: Cut the chicken tenders into 2-3 pieces each depending on your preference for size.

Seasonings have been dumped on top of raw chicken tenders. The other remaining ingredients for this Copycat Chick-Fil-A recipe are in bowls around the chicken.

Step 2. Combine flour, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and black pepper to the chicken. Mix well.

The chicken is seasoned and the liquid has been poured into the bowl. The dredge ingredients are sitting in a separate bowl beside it.

Step 3: Pour liquids on top of chicken and mix until fully incorporated. Let marinate.

There are 2 white bowls on the counter. One has the seasoned chicken and the other has the dredge ingredients with a few pieces of chicken in it.

Step 4: While heating the oil, whisk together dredge ingredients. Drop in a few nuggets at a time into the flour, and coat well.

A pot with bubbling oil is frying a small batch of chicken tender pieces.

Step 5: Drop nuggets, a few at a time, into the hot oil. Cook until golden brown.

Hint: The amount of oil you need depends on the type of pan you’re using to fry the nuggets. You want enough oil for the nuggets to cook evenly without crowding the pan.

📖 Substitutions and Variations

  • 🥛Buttermilk - if you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own! Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to 1 cup of milk and let sit for 5 minutes. You can also make it dairy-free by subbing your favorite plant-based milk for regular.

🔪 Equipment

This recipe only requires a couple of tools to make, and it’s flexible in that you can use whatever type of pan you have available for frying.

  • Frying Pan, Deep Fryer or Dutch Oven
  • Tongs
  • Paper Towels

🍽️ Storage

Gluten free chicken nuggets can be stored in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days. After cooking, let them cool down, then place them in an airtight container before refrigerating.

If you want to keep them longer, you can freeze them. Just make sure they are well-wrapped to prevent freezer burn. When you're ready to enjoy them again, reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture!

⭐ Top tip

Don’t crowd the nuggets! It’s better to work in small batches during dredging and frying to get the best results.

You can make your own buttermilk by taking 1 cup milk of choice, adding 1 tablespoon white vinegar, and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
Amount of oil for frying may differ depending on fry method. 1 to 1 ½ cups of oil should be sufficient if you're using a frying pan or Dutch oven. If you're deep frying them in a fryer, you'll need about 3-4 cups of oil, depending on the size of your fryer.
