10 Minute Gluten-Free Chicken Fried Rice
I’ve found it nearly impossible to find gluten-free Chinese take-out.
So, we resort to making it at home! This way we can control the ingredients and have the assurance that we won’t get “glutened.”
But honestly, this homemade gluten-free chicken fried rice takes half the time of ordering take out and picking it up!
It’s that quick to make.
Plus, it uses ingredients you likely have on-hand already and is easily customizable to make this recipe your own!
Take this quick quiz and uncover the secrets to making your gluten-free lifestyle not just manageable, but truly enjoyable with custom recipes and tips!
Leftover Chicken Fried Rice
This recipe (as listed below) is designed for chicken fried rice. I'm a big fan of using leftovers from a recipe like this roast chicken recipe. Just chop the leftover chicken into smaller pieces!
But you could honestly use almost any leftover meat you have, or leave meat out entirely and use it as a side dish for a protein like this Healthy Orange Chicken.
Gluten-Free Vegetarian Fried Rice
Don’t eat meat (or don’t have any handy)?
No problem. Turn this into the perfect Meatless Monday recipe and get your protein fill from the fried egg!
Simply sub small cubes of tofu (you could even try topping it with this air fryer tofu)or leave out the additional protein altogether and add in extra veggies!
Mushrooms or broccoli would be great choices, or simply buy a bag of a frozen vegetable stir fry blend to keep it super simple.
Gluten Free Pork Fried Rice
If you just LOVE the flavor of pork fried rice, simply sub in some diced cooked pork for the chicken!
Making gluten free pork fried rice is just that simple!
Soy Free Fried Rice
If you need a soy free option, I recommend using coconut aminos instead of gluten-free soy sauce.
Coconut aminos are really tasty and a perfect substitute for making soy free fried rice.
I really like this brand of coconut aminos. It's what I use at home!
Fast Fried Rice
There are a couple tips we use to customize this recipe and make it even faster:
Make fried rice with leftover rice
I don't know about you, but we cook rice at least once a week!
If I know we have a busy schedule that week, I’ll make extra rice so we have it ready to make fast fried rice.
Use leftover meat in your chicken fried rice
If you want meat in this recipe, honestly, pretty much any meat works!
Just shred or chop into smaller pieces. It’s a great way to use up your leftovers!
Use frozen vegetables
Frozen veggies make this recipe SO quick to put together.
Hate chopping onions? Use pre-chopped frozen onion. I've even used dried minced onion in a pinch!

How to Make Chicken Fried Rice
Step #1: Heat sesame oil and ghee in the skillet
I use a cast-iron wok. This thing is amazing! It keeps the heat uniform—even up the sides of the wok. Click here to see more amazing reviews for this cast iron wok!
Sesame oil really kicks up the taste in this recipe.
If you don’t use ghee in cooking, feel free to sub regular butter (or vegan butter)! Heat over medium-high heat, be careful not to burn!
You want to cook fried rice hot and quick, but do not want to burn it!
Step #2: Add veggies
Once warm, toss in the onion, minced garlic, peas, carrots, and any other veggies you choose.
Cook just until onions are becoming translucent (maybe 1-2 minutes).
Step #3: Add your rice, meat, aminos, and seasonings
Next, add the cooked rice, cooked & chopped meat, aminos (I used a mix of Bragg’s soy aminos and coconut aminos), and the seasonings.
Instead of aminos you could use a gluten-free tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
Continue to stir for another 1-2 minutes until rice is heated and starts to brown.
Step #4: Create a “well” and add the scrambled eggs
Move your rice to the edges of your wok or skillet and create a ‘well’ for the scrambled eggs. I like to melt a bit more ghee to the middle to ensure that my eggs don’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
Add your eggs and cook and scramble in the middle of the well.
Once the eggs are soft set, stir them into the rest of the fried rice.
Step #5: Add seasonings and continue cooking and stirring until it’s cooked up to your desires
I let mine cook another 2-3 minutes—I really like my rice to brown up.
At this point, I often taste it and add more salt & pepper or aminos if needed.
Step #6: Serve and garnish with sesame seeds
Eat up!
